Women's Tennis Shuts Out Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa.--Senior Carlie Smith moved to second all-time on the combined career wins list, as Pitt's women's tennis team garnered its fourth shutout of the season and fifth consecutive victory in a 7-0 decision over Villanova, Friday afternoon. The Panthers improved to 8-6 on the season and 4-1 in the conference. Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) only gave up one game in both sets combined, winning 6-1 and 6-0. Smith garnered her 73 career singles win for second all-time and her 54th career double victory in the match. In No. 3 doubles action, Smith teamed senior Leah Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) and shutout their opponent, 8-0. In that match, Friedman tallied her 58th career doubles win, which is two shy of tying the third-best mark in Panther history. Freshman Elizabeth Adams (Reading, Pa./Wilson) dropped two games in her first set of No. 3 singles, but won six straight in the second set to earn the victory. Adams improved to 20-9 in singles action and posted her 35th career victory. Pitt concludes its regular-season Big East action with matches against Seton Hall (Saturday) and Rutgers (Sunday). Singles
