PITTSBURGH-Chris Beerman, the head women's volleyball coach at the University of Pittsburgh the past eight seasons, announced his resignation today to pursue other opportunities in the coaching profession.

Beerman compiled a 154-90 overall record with the Panthers, including a 70-30 mark in Big East play. Pitt advanced to two NCAA Tournaments under his watch (2003 and 2004) and captured the Big East Tournament title in 2003.

"The University of Pittsburgh is appreciative of Coach Beerman's work with our volleyball program the past eight years," Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson said. "Certainly we wish Chris only the best in his future pursuits."

"I would like to thank the University of Pittsburgh, the Pitt Athletic Department and the many student-athletes I have had the opportunity to work with the past eight years," Beerman said. "My family and I have greatly appreciated our time with the university. Our program was able to experience and accomplish some wonderful things and I know I'm leaving Pitt in a great position to continue on a successful path."

A search for a successor will begin immediately.
