Feb. 2, 2008 NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The 13th-ranked Providence College men's hockey team played to a 1-1 overtime tie against Merrimack Saturday night in a Hockey East game at Lawler Arena. The Friars, who are unbeaten their last four games, moved to 12-9-3 overall and 9-5-3 in league action. The Warriors moved to 10-12-3 and 4-12-2 in Hockey East. The Friars controlled the first period as they outshot the Warriors, 20-2. PC struck first at 5:49 when freshman Kyle MacKinnon (Walnut, Claif.) pounced on a rebound in front and buried his fifth goal of the season. Senior Matt Taormina (Washington Township, Mich.) and freshman Ben Farrer (Calgary, Alberta) assisted on the goal. The Warriors tied the game at 4:25 of the second period. After a scrum in front, Francois Ouimet fired in his seventh goal of the season. Neither team could find the net in the third period as the Friars held a 16-5 shot advantage in the final 20 minutes. In overtime, PC had the best scoring chance when senior Jon Rheault (Deering, N.H.) set up freshman Ian O'Connor (Londonderry, N.H.) right in front, but Merrimack goalie Andrew Braithwaite made the save on the play. Braithwaite finished with 50 saves as the Friars had a 51-18 shot advantage. PC senior Tyler Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished with 17 stops.
PC is back in action on Friday, February 8 when it hosts Vermont at Schneider Arena..
