March 20, 2008

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - It was announced on Thursday, March 20 at the Annual Hockey East Banquet that Providence College junior defenseman Matt Taormina (Washington Township, Mich.) was named to the All-Hockey East Second Team. Taormina is the first Friar to earn All-Hockey East accolades since All-American Stephen Wood was named to the first team in 2004.

Taormina, who totalled 18 points in his first two seasons at PC, finished the 2007-08 campaign ranked second on the team in scoring with a career-high 27 points on nine goals and 18 assists. He was the top scoring defenseman in league games as he recorded 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists). In addition, he finished tied for second in Hockey East with two short-handed goals and three game-winning tallies. He was named Hockey East Player of the Week twice (11/12, 2/4).
