CHICAGO, Ill. - The Providence College men's soccer team opened the BIG EAST schedule with a 2-0 victory over DePaul Friday evening in Chicago, Ill. Senior All-American Ryan Maduro's (Bristol, R.I.) goal just before the halftime whistle proved was the difference as the Friars improved to 4-2, including a 1-0 mark in the league. It marked the second consecutive season that Providence has won the conference opener. The match also was the first meeting between the two teams. The Blue Demons suffered their first defeat of the season as they fell to 4-1 and 0-1 in the conference.

The Friars struck in the 43rd minute when Maduro was able to get on the end of a Michael Narciso (Livingston, N.J.) cross to the far post and volley home his second goal of the season. Sophomore Toussaint McClure (Atlanta, Ga.) also assisted on the goal. The goal also marked the first that DePaul has yielded this season. Maduro setup the second goal, which sealed the victory in the 79th minute as he sent a cross to freshman Matt Marcin (Wilmington, Del.) who was able to connect for his second tally of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Timothy Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) made three saves to earn his third clean sheet of the season. He has four shutouts in nine career starts. DePaul's Brian Visser made two stops.

The Friars continue on their on Sunday, September 23 when they face USF in Tampa, Fla. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
