Providence, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their final home game of the regular season. Notre Dame is currently ranked No. 4/11 in the national polls. In their last contest, Providence (9-5-1, 5-3-1) earned a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over Seton Hall on Wednesday, October 24. Freshman Alex Redding (Newton, Mass.) scored the game winner in the 95th minute. Redding, the reigning BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, tallied his third goal in the last four games when he was able to re-direct a low cross from senior Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) into the right corner of the net. Senior Michael Narciso (Livingston, N.J.) and sophomore Justin Kahle (Oceanport, N.J.) also found the net for Providence. Maduro finished the day with a pair of assists to help lead the Friars. For Providence, it marked their second overtime win this season, both of which have come on their home pitch. The Friars are 6-1-1 at home, including a 3-0-1 mark in league contests at Glay Field. With the win, Providence has won four consecutive games and moves into a tie for third place in the BIG EAST Blue Division. With only two conference games left, the Friars are hoping to earn a Conference Tournament home game for the second consecutive season. Notre Dame (10-3-3, 7-0-2) is in first place in the BIG EAST Blue Division entering Sunday's match against the Friars. The Irish are led by 2006 M.A.C. Herman Trophy winner, Joseph Lapira. Lapira, a 2006 First-Team All-American, leads the team with 18 points on six goals and six assists. Notre Dame has looked to attack the net early and often in the 2007 campaign. The Irish lead the BIG EAST with 277 shots on the season and 98 corner kicks. The Irish rely on goalkeeper Chris Cahill to take charge between the woodwork. Cahill has a record of 9-2-3 on the season with five shutouts. The fifth-year senior has allowed 11 goals in 14 games on the year. In their most recent match, Notre Dame defeated Pittsburgh, 3-0. Notre Dame has scored 10 goals in their last 4 games. Providence is 2-10 all-time versus Notre Dame. The Friars are hoping to defeat the Irish for the first time since 2000 when they were able to pull off a 3-1 upset. Providence is in action next when they travel to West Virginia on Saturday, November 3 for the regular season finale. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
