BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College Men's Indoor Track team competed in the IC4A Championships at Boston University this past weekend, while the Women's Indoor Track team competed in the ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.

At the ECAC Championships, junior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) led the way for the Friars in the first day of competition, winning the 5000m in an NCAA provisional time of 16:16.23. Also on day one, Katie Elliot finished 12th overall in the 1000m with a time of 2:54.52. On Sunday, sophomore Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) and sophomore Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland) finished second and third overall in the 3000m with times of 9:33.22 and 9:34.09, respectively. Douglas' time was an NCAA provisional time and Twohig just missed the NCAA mark by .09 seconds.

At the IC4A Championships, senior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) won the 5000m in an NCAA Provisional time of 14:02.84 to become the sixth Friar in school history to win the Indoor IC4A 5000m title. The Men's Distance Medley Relay team finished in third place with a time of 9:50.82 in the finals. The DMR team consisted of junior Nick Berluti (Westwood, Mass.) (3:04.75), junior Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) (47.60), senior James Lourenco (West Warwick, R.I.) (1:50.88), and senior Chris McDermott (West Haven, Conn.) (4:07.59). On day one of the competition, the DMR team placed first in their trial run with an NCAA Provisional time of 9:42.61. The DMR trials team included McDermott (3:00.76), Dewey (47.85), Lourenco (1:51.50), and sophomore Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) (4:02.50).

 

 

The Providence College Men's and Women's Indoor Track team will compete next in the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 14th and 15th. The athletes who will be competing at the NCAA Championships will be announced later this week.
