PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Athletic Department and the PC Women's Basketball Team are proud to participate in two of the NCAA's promotional campaigns for women's basketball. Both "THINK PINK" Week and "PACK THE HOUSE" are designed to not only generate interest for women's basketball, but to help support a worthy cause at the same time. This is the first year that Providence College will be taking part in these events. On Saturday, February 9 coinciding with the Friars' BIG EAST matchup against West Virginia, the PC Athletic Department will attempt to raise a significant amount of money for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The Foundation was established in 2004 by the nine children of Gloria Gemma, who died of breast cancer a few years ago. T-shirts will be sold and donations will be accepted at the game and donated to the Foundation during halftime of the game. Also part of the day's festivities is the NCAA's annual "PACK THE HOUSE" campaign. Providence College will be taking part in this campaign to help generate stronger awareness for the women's basketball program. The athletic department has invited all high school girls' basketball teams throughout the state as well as local YMCA's and community youth organizations. At halftime, the Seekonk Middle School Girls 7th and 8th grade teams will play to show support for the community organizations around the area. Tip-off for the game is at 2:00 P.M. in Alumni Hall's Mullaney Gymnasium on the campus of Providence College. Help the PC women's basketball team "Pack the House" and set an attendance record for the season!
