Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Princeton, 2-1, on Sunday, October 14 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. Paige Schmidt led the way for Princeton, scoring one goal in each half. Providence's Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) tallied the lone Friar goal in the loss. Providence drops to 10-6 on the season, while Princeton improves to 8-4 overall.

The Tigers got on the board for a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the action as Schmidt scored on a direct shot during a penalty corner. The play was assisted by Christina Bortz and Candice Arner. Princeton took its 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Princeton increased its lead to 2-0 at the 39:31 mark as Schmidt struck once again on a crossing pass from Kristin Schwab. The Friars finally got on the board at 41:55 to make the score, 2-1, in favor of Princeton as Ruggieri deflected an initial shot taken by senior Michalagh Stoddard (Norwood, Mass.) during a penalty corner. Stoddard was credited with the assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) made seven save for Providence in the cage. Cynthia Wray stopped four shots in goal for Princeton to seal the victory.

Providence returns to action on Friday, October 19 against BIG EAST foe Rutgers at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played in Piscataway, N.J. The Friars then travel to Villanova to take on the 20th-ranked Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21 in Villanova, Pa.
