Boston, Mass. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team shut out Northeastern on Saturday afternoon at NU's Matthews Arena by a score 4-0. Danielle Tangredi (London, Ontario) scored two goals and Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) made 24 saves for the Friars. Providence now stands at 14-12-3 (9-5-2 HE) while Northeastern falls to 6-20-3 (5-10-1 HE).

Tangredi scored what would prove to be the game winner at the 4:39 mark of the second period, with assists going to Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ontario) and Amber Yung (Rockaville, Va.).

The Friars then scored three third period goals to put the game out of reach. The Friars' second goal was scored by sophomore Pamela McDevitt (So. Boston, Mass.) at 8:57 of the third. Alyse Ruff (Tualatin, Ore.) and Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ontario) were credited with assists. PC made it 3-0 at 12:17 of the third when Mari Pehkonen (Tampere, Finland) netted her fifth goal of the season, with assists going to Normore and Jean O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.). At 18:43 of the third, Tangredi scored an empty net goal for her second of the game. Brittany Simpson (Barrie, Ontario) and Normore had the assists.

Ciarletta made 24 saves to earn her fourth shut out of the season, while NU goaltender Leah Sulyma made 40 saves in the game.

 

 

The Friars return to action tomorrow, February 17 as they host Northeastern in Providence, R.I. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
