Jan. 21, 2008

It was announced by the Hockey East Association that junior goaltender Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the week on Monday, January 21. Ciarletta led the Friars to a 1-0-1 mark on the weekend, turning aside 53 of the 55 shots she faced. It marks the third time this season, and the fifth time in her career, that Ciarletta has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

On Saturday, January 19 Ciarletta made 27 saves as PC tied No. 1 UNH, 1-1 at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. Three of her 27 saves came in overtime to preserve the tie. It was the first time this season that a Hockey East team has come away with a point after facing UNH. A day later, Ciarletta made 26 saves to lead the Friars past Boston University by a score of 3-1.

The Friars have posted a 4-1-1 record to begin the second half of the season, which includes three games against top four ranked opponents. Over the six game span in 2008, Ciarletta has a 1.15 goals against average and a .961 save percenatge.

Ciarletta and the Friars return to action next weekend as they travel to Burlington, Vt. for a two-game series at UVM. The first game of the series will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Catamounts' Gutterson Fieldhouse on Friday, January 25.
