Feb. 18, 2008

It was announced by the Hockey East Association that freshman forward Alyse Ruff (Tualatin, Ore.) was named the HOCKEY EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday, February 18. Ruff helped the Friars sweep Northeastern this past weekend, enabling the Friars to keep a strong hold on third place in the league standings. It marks the third time this season Ruff has garnered Rookie of the Week honors.

In the Friars' first game of the weekend versus Northeastern, Ruff notched an assist in PC's 4-0 win on February 16. A day later, Ruff scored three third period goals, including the game winner, to lead the Friars to their third straight victory. She also added an assist for a career-high four points in the game. It marked Ruff's second hat trick of the season.

Ruff notched her first career hat trick to lead the Friars past Maine on Saturday, December 1. Ruff is now the first Friar to have multiple hat tricks in the same season since Karen Thatcher '06 had two hat tricks during the 2004-05 season. Along with Kate Lesniak of Vermont, she is one of only two HOCKEY EAST players to score three goals in a game this season.

Ruff and the Friars return to action this weekend with a home-and-home series versus Hockey East rival New Hampshire. The first game will be played at Schneider Arena on Saturday, February 23 at 1:00 p.m.
