Providence, R.I. - Women's ice hockey head coach Bob Deraney and his coaching staff have announced the signing of four more student-athletes to attend Providence College and join the women's ice hockey program in the fall of 2008. The four new additions are Lauren Covell (Akron, Ohio), Christie Jensen (Delta, British Columbia), Arianna Rigano (Malden, Mass.) and Breanna Schwarz (Portland, Ore.). About the four recruits, Coach Deraney said, "We're very excited to add these four terrific student-athletes to our program. All four of them are very different players and each brings very valuable assets to our program. They also solidify what we feel is one of the best recruiting classes in the nation. We are very excited to not only add them, but also their families, to the Providence College women's ice hockey program." Covell is a five-foot-nine, right-shooting forward who played for the Ohio Phantom Flames and graduated from Green High School. Jensen is a five-foot-five, right-hand shot who played for the Pacific Steelers while attending South Delta Secondary. She will play defense for the Friars. Schwarz, who attended and played for the Williston Northhampton School, is a five-foot-eight, left-shooting defenseman. All three players will join the Friars as members of the class of 2011. Rigano is coming to the Friars after playing two seasons at St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. In her two seasons with the Hawks, Rigano played in 53 games, scoring 48 goals and adding 27 assists for 75 points. Last season, Rigano notched 22 goals and 16 assists for 38 points in 26 games played. Rigano is five-foot-six, shoots left and will play forward for the Friars. Covell, Jensen, Rigano and Schwarz join Ashley Cottrell (Sterling Heights, Mich.), Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn.), Abby Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.), Laura Veharanta (La Verne, Calif.), Jennifer Freidman (San Gabriel, Calif.) and Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ontario) to make up Bob Deraney's 10th recruiting class at Providence College.
