BOSTON, Mass. - The Providence College softball team was defeated, 7-3, by Boston University Wednesday afternoon in Boston, Mass. With the loss, the Friars fell to 15-12-1, while the Terriers improved to 15-11.

The Friars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when sophomore Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) reached on an infield hit, stole second base and advanced to third on a past ball. Revens came around to score on an RBI single by junior Mary Rose Sheehy (Woodbridge, Conn.). The Terriers evened the score in the bottom half of the inning as April Setterlund doubled to drive in Christy Leath who led off with a double. BU took a 3-1 lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Shayne Lotito. The Terriers added two more runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 5-1.

In the fourth inning, Melissa Dubay hit a two-run home run to give the Terriers a six-run cushion (7-1). The Friars trimmed the lead to 7-3 in the fifth inning on RBI singles by sophomore Christy Becker (Atlanta, Ga.) and senior Samantha Pittman (San Diego, Calif.), but could not get any closer. Sheehy totalled three hits and one RBI, while Revens and Pittman each had two hits for the Friars, who finished with a 10-9 advantage in hits.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, April 4 when they face Syracuse in a BIG EAST double header in Syracuse, N.Y.
