The Providence College softball team dropped a BIG EAST Conference double header against Pittsburgh, 3-0, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Panthers improved to 20-13 overall and 6-2 in league action, while the Friars fell to 15-16-1 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST.

Cory Berliner pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out three batters in a 3-0 game one victory. The Panthers took the lead in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Sam Card and added two more runs in the sixth inning to complete the scoring. PC sophomore pitcher Danielle Bertolette (Temecula, Calif.) allowed just one earned run on four hits and struck out two batters.

In the second game, Kayla Zinger held the Friars scoreless to lead the Panthers to a 1-0 win. Zinger pitched all seven innings, allowed just two hits and struck out six batters. PC junior Jennifer Maccio (Huntington Station, N.Y.) also was impressive as she allowed one run on three hits and struck out two batters in six innings. Jessica Dignon accounted for the lone run of the game as she hit a home run to lead off the fourth inning.

The Friars are back in action on Thursday, April 10 when they host Harvard in a non-conference double header at Raymond Field.
