NEW HAVEN, CONN. - The Providence College Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams competed in their first outdoor meet of the season this past Saturday, March 29th in the Owl Invitational at Southern Connecticut State University.

On a very cold and windy day, the Friars competed well in their initial meet on the 2008 Outdoor Track Season.

The Women were led by junior Katie Elliot (Penfield, N.Y.) who placed second in the 1500m with a time of 4:46.53. Junior Katherine Schock (Norwood, Mass.) also finished strong with a third place finish in the 800m in a time of 2:21.48.

The Men's squad was led by junior Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) who won the 400m in a time of 49.33. Freshman Phillip Connaughton (Broken Arrow, Okla.) placed second in the long jump with a jump of 6.23m. Senior Chris McDermott (West Haven, Conn.) ran in first place in the 800m until the last 80m and finished fourth overall with a time of 1:57.90.

The Providence College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams will compete next in the Stanford Inviation on April 4th and 5th, and the PC Women will compete at the UConn Invitational on April 5th.
