The Providence College men's and women's track teams will compete at the 2008 New England Indoor Track Championships at Boston University in Boston, Mass. on February 29 and March 1.

On the first day of competition (Friday, February 29), the Friars will take part in eight events. Freshman Brian Stannard (East Longmeadow, Mass.) will start things off for PC in the men's 400 meter dash trials (1:35 p.m.). Junior Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) will run the 500 meter dash trials at 1:50 p.m. Both James Lourenco (West Warwick, R.I.) and Nick Berluti (Westwood, Mass.) will run in the 800 meter trials at 2:20 p.m. Soon after that, senior Chris McDermott (West Haven, Conn.) with run in the 1000 meter trials (2:40 p.m.). The last event for the men's team on Friday is the Distance Medley Relay team which consists of Michael Anderson (Ajax, Ont.), Alan Pandiani (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Stephen Hankinson (Summit, N.J.) and Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.). The DMR is scheduled for a 3:35 p.m. start time.

The women's team will have their first race at 6:15 p.m. when Katherine Schock (Norwood, Mass.) and Christina Conley (Andover, Mass.) run in the 800 meter trials. Providence College has three runners in the 6:30 p.m. 1000 meter trials race, as Katie Elliot (Penfield, N.Y.), Katherine Leugers (Richmond, Vt.), and Amie Schumacher (Wolcott, Conn.) all compete for a spot in the finals on Saturday. The women's Distance Medley Relay race will start at 7:20 p.m. The team includes Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland), Julie Wolf (Holden, Mass.), Emma Perron (West Hartford, Conn.), and Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine).

 

 

On Saturday March 1, Hankinson will lead things off for the Friars when he runs in the mile race at 11:00 a.m. Nicholas Barao (Riverside, R.I.) and Ben Saviet (Sutton, Mass.) will follow in the 3000m to start at 11:30 a.m. Douglas, Perron, and Twohig will run in the women's indoor mile race at 1:00 p.m. Marcus Webb, Anderson, and Haji will run the men's 3000m at 2:35 p.m. and Sarah Morgan (Waikato, New Zealand) and Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ontario) will run in the women's 3000 meter at 2:50 p.m. Lourenco, Berluti, McDermott, Dewey, and Hankinson will run the men's 4x800m relay at 3:05 p.m. and Schock, Elliot, Leugers, Schumacher, and Conley will run the women's 4x800 meter relay at 3:35 p.m.
