Men's Basketball Upends No. 17, Heads to Big Ten Tournament
The men's basketball team closed out their regular season with their fifth consecutive win at home in a thrilling 68-64 overtime win, stunning the No. 17 Indiana Hoosiers. It was the Nittany Lions' second victory over a Top 25 team this season, and seventh Big Ten win. The win gave Penn State the No. 7 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, and it will face the No. 10 seeded Fighting Illini at 2:30 p.m. ET at Conseco Field House in Indianapolis, Ind. Wrestler Claims Big Ten Title
Senior Phil Davis, of the Penn State wrestling team, claimed his second Big Ten Title with a victory in the 197-pound final. Sophomore Dan Vallimont also made it to the finals, but fell to the top seed. The Nittany Lions finished seventh in the championships. Fencing at National Championships
Ten Nittany Lions have been selected to attend the NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Championships at the French Field House in Columbus Ohio, March 13-16. The Penn State men are currently ranked No. 1 in the USFCA coach's poll, and the women are ranked No. 9. Go to the men's and women's fencing pages.
Track at NCAA Indoor Championship
Seven members of the women's track and field team head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Indoor National Championships this weekend. Senior Shana Cox and senior Dominique Blake will run the 400-meter dash, sophomore Bridget Franek the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, junior Aleesha Barber the 60-meter hurdles, and junior Gayle Hunter the pentathlon. Senior Brienne Simmons, sophomore Wendy Dorr, Cox and Blake are all running the 4x400-meter medley. The competition is this Friday and Saturday March 14 and 15. ACDI Hosts Renowned Professor and Author
Dr. Pat Griffin, an Emerita Professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, spoke at two special events in University Park last month addressing today's diversity climate and issues. A recognized speaker, educator and author on heterosexism and homophopia in sport, Dr. Griffin spends majority of her time hosting seminars at colleges throughout the United States. While at Penn State she spoke with the ICA staff for a breakfast in the Bryce Jordan Center, and for lunch with student-athletes in East Area Locker Room. Dr. Griffin has previously been featured on ESPN Outside the Lines, HBO Real Sports and ABC Sports. Read more about ACDI.
Spring Break
With spring break underway for Penn State students, many teams have headed out of Pennsylvania for tournaments. Baseball and softball are both competing in Florida, men's and women's golf are in the Carolinas, women's tennis is in Oklahoma and Kansas, men's tennis is in Alabama, and men's volleyball and women's gymnastics are both competing in California. The men's and women's lacrosse teams are the only teams remaining at home for competition. Men's lacrosse faces Villanova at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11 and Vermont on Saturday, March 15 at 12 p.m. Women's lacrosse faces Princeton at 3 p.m. on March 15. Check out the calendar of events .
