UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -
Wrestling's Phil Davis (Harrisburg, Pa.) and women's lacrosse's Jessi Lieb (Villanova, Pa.) have been named the Penn State Student-Athletes of the Week.
Three-time All-American Phil Davis, ranked No. 3 at 197, met No. 2 Mike Tamillow of Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship match. Davis won the first three points of the match and held on for a 3-2 decision to win his second Big Ten title. Davis heads to his fourth NCAA Championships with a 21-1 record. He went 4-0 in his final Big Ten tournament and leaves Penn State with a 13-4 career record at the event. Davis heads to the NCAA Championships with a chance to become only the fourth four-time All-American in Nittany Lion history and a 111-20 career record. By virtue of his victory, Davis also earned one of ten spots on the 2008 Big Ten All-Tournament Team and became a first team All-Big Ten winner.
Senior midfielder and team co-captain Jessi Lieb more than doubled her season point total in one game, collecting a team-high four goals and two assists in Penn State's 18-12 win over William & Mary. The preseason All-American also topped the Nittany Lions with three draw controls and added two ground balls and one caused turnover.
