Four Rice Owls have been named to the Conference USA Coaches preseason all conference team, the conference office announced today.

Seniors Jarett Dillard and Chase Clement were selected on offense, while senior Brian Raines and junior Andrew Sendejo were named to the defensive team in voting by conference coaches. Rice and Marshall lead the way with four players selected on the team, followed by East Carolina, Southern Miss, Tulsa and UTEP (three each). Houston, Memphis and UAB each placed a pair of players on the squad, while SMU had one player selected.

Dillard enters his senior season as the NCAA active career leader in receptions (205), receiving yards (2,828) and receiving touchdowns (40). His 40 touchdowns rank eighth on the NCAA career list and he is 10 away from the NCAA career mark of 50 set by Troy Edwards of Louisiana Tech. Clement is among the NCAA career active leaders in both total touchdowns (68) and passing touchdowns (55) and set 18 school and four conference records last season. Raines has piled up 199 tackles over the last two seasons at linebacker. Sendejo led the Owls in tackles last season, while picking off five passes.

Clement and Raines will join Rice head coach David Bailiff this weekend in Memphis to participate in the C-USA Media Blitz as well as appearing on the CBS College Sports C-USA Football Media Blitz Presented by AutoZone and the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Rice will open fall practices for the 2008 season on August 2, as the Owls begin preparations for their August 29 nationally-televised opener vs. SMU at Rice Stadium. The game has been designated as Operation Sellout, with tickets starting at just $10.
