May 13, 2008 UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond athletic department will be presented the Diversity in Athletics Award for the category of Gender Equity Compliance at the 2008 National Association of Collegiate Director of Athletics (NACDA) Convention next month in Dallas. The Award will be presented during the NACDA Convention on June 11 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. "It is with great pleasure that we would like to recognize and congratulate the University of Richmond athletics department as one of those recognized for a Diversity in Athletics Award in the category of Gender Equity Compliance," Charlotte Westerhaus, vice president of diversity and inclusion for the NCAA, said in a letter addressed to the University. "We are proud to be recognized for our commitment to gender equity and diversity," Richmond athletic director Jim Miller said. "Gender equity and diversity are top priorities for our administrators, support staff and coaches. This honor recognizes our success in creating an inclusive environment at the University of Richmond." The award was selected through the independent research conducted by the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport at Texas A&M University and supported by the NCAA. The award winners are those that have achieved the highest total combined scores in six different categories of diversity. |
