March 6, 2008
SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Bronco track team is ready to compete in their second event of the season, the Wildcat Relays, this upcoming Saturday at Chico State. The Bronco men and women will be competing in various short distance and relay races throughout the day, including the 4X100 M and 4X400 M relays, a sprint and distance medley, and the 3000 M steeplechase.
"The Wildcat Relays have a much more relaxed atmosphere for us. There's a lot more camaraderie with the team, with everyone cheering each other on with the relays," said head coach Tom Service.
The relays will also mark the beginning for senior Michael Delaurenti in his quest to qualify for the NCAA regionals this year. "We're really looking forward to seeing Mike compete in the steeplechase; it will be a nice opening for his season and what he is capable of doing this year," said Service. Sophomore Alex Harkins and senior Danielle Miller will also be competing in the steeplechase as well.
Twelve other schools will also be competing event, with Santa Clara being the only school representing the WCC for the event. Service explained, "this event is really the last warm-up week of the season for us, so the possibility of breaking new school records is always there. We're definitely looking forward to going up there this weekend."
The track team will be up at Chico all day March 8th, 2008.
