FAIRFIELD, CT - Freshman Matt Fitton (Lebanon, CT) was named the Akadema/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week today after helping his team to a 4-1 record last week and getting the Pioneers back into the middle of the NEC playoff hunt.

Fitton proved potent at both the plate and on the bump in helping Sacred Heart to a four-game sweep of NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson. The towering rookie left-hander tossed seven innings of four-run ball to earn the decision in Sunday's 8-6 triumph.

Even more impressive at the plate, Fitton batted .333 (6-for-18) while blasting his first three collegiate home runs, driving in eight runs, and scoring eight times. His first long ball came in the sixth inning of Friday's 11-10 victory, which set the stage for a two-homer day on Saturday. With the first half of Saturday's doubleheader deadlocked at 6-6 in the top of the eighth, Fitton delivered a three-run bomb to left field that provided the final margin.
