Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart men's tennis team posted a 6-1 win over St. Francis (NY) Sunday afternoon in Fairfield enroute to a 1-2 week. The Pioneers lost a 5-2 decisions to Monmouth on Saturday and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.
Freshman Jinal Shah (Mombasa, Kenya) went 3-2 on the week, posting a win in all three SHU matches. His record includes a 2-0 mark in singles, recording wins against NEC foes Monmouth and FDU from the number six position. Shah also recorded a win at number two doubles against St. Francis (NY) to help the Pioneers earn a victory in that match. He did not drop a set in any match.
Against St. Francis, freshman Matthew Cook (Milford, CT) earned to wins, at number four singles (6-0, 6-0) and also at number two doubles, teaming with Shah. The Pioneers won all three doubles matches against the Terriers and then took five of six singles matches.
Freshman Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) and Michael Syer (Oakville, ON) also won two matches on the weekend. Kasaynov won two matches against Monmouth, posting a 6-2, 6-0 win at number one singles and then teamed with Nick Mazzarese (Stonington, NY to get a win at number two doubles. Syer teamed up with Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) to get an 8-5 win in number one doubles against St. Francis and, later that afternoon, won a three set match, 6-3, 0-6, 10-7, in the number four singles match against FDU.

Sacred Heart will host Hofstra on Tuesday afternoon at the SHU tennis courts. Matches will begin at 2:30 pm.
