Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY) made Sacred Heart history earlier this week becoming the school's first athlete to compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials by running in the 400 meters. Dixon kept his magical year going Friday afternoon, advancing to the quarterfinals of the 200 meters out in Eugene, Oregon.
Dixon finished third in his heat, clocking in at 20.66 seconds behind Florida State's Walter Dix (20.66), three-time NCAA Champion in the event as well as an Olympic qualifier in the 100 meters, and Charles Clark (20.76). The top three finishers in each of the five heats along with the next nine fastest times advanced on to the quarterfinals in the event.
The USTFCCCA All-American's time was his fastest this year topping his time of 20.86 seconds he ran to win the New England Championship in the event.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Saturday afternoon at approximatley 12:10 pm pacific time. The 10-day event to determine the athletes who will compete for the United States at next month's Olympic Games in Bejeing will conclude on Sunday.
