The Storyline... Sacred Heart will make their ninth-straight appearance in the Northeast Conference Tournament when they tip-off against Monmouth Saturday night at Long Island University. The Pioneers are the #3 seed in this year's tournament after finishing third with a 14-4 conference mark. The Hawks earned the #6 seed after finishing the season with three-straight wins to clinch a berth. The winner of Saturday night's game will advance to the semifinals on Sunday afternoon and face the winner of the #2 Robert Morris versus #7 St. Francis-NY game.

SHU vs. Monmouth Series... Sacred Heart leads the all-time series, 12-6. The Pioneers have won seven-straight, sweeping the regular season series this year with a 61-58 win on the road and a 64-55 win at home. The two teams have met twice in the NEC Tournament with the Pioneers posting a 50-46 win at home over the Hawks in the semifinals of last year's tournament. Monmouth took the first postseason meeting in 2004, winning 64-60 in the semifinals at Wagner.

SHU vs. Robert Morris Series... Sacred Heart leads the all-time series, 11-6. The Pioneers and Colonials spilt the season series this year, each winning on the other's court for the second-straight year. SHU won the first meeting, 59-57, on the road but lost the season finale, 66-52, at home. The two teams have met twice in the postseason with Robert Morris taking both meetings. The Colonials denied SHU their second-straight title with a 68-66 win at home in last season's title game. Robert Morris took the 2005 tournament semifinal in Fairfield, 68-62 in overtime.

SHU vs. St. Francis-NY Series... The Pioneers lead the all-time series, 16-8, dating back to the 1974-75 season, Sacred Heart's first year of competition. The Pioneers ran their streak to 15-straight in the series after sweeping both regular season game, winning 63-47 at home and 65-37 on the road. SHU has never lost to St. Francis-NY as a member of the Northeast Conference (14-0). Sacred Heart took the first ever meeting, 62-50, to record the program's first-ever win on February 4, 1975.

Pioneer Tournament History

- This is Sacred Heart's ninth-straight appearance in the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Pioneers are 9-7 in their tournament history, winning the 2006 title. Sacred Heart is 6-2 at home in the postseason, 0-1 on the road and 3-4 at neutral sites.

- SHU has been the #1 seed once (2006), the #2 seed twice (2005, 2004), the #3 seed three times (2008, 2007, 2002), the #5 seed twice (2003, 2001) and the #6 seed once (2000). The Pioneers have never finished lower then tied for third place in the final NEC standings.

- Sacred Heart has advanced to two-straight NEC Championship games, winning in 2006 and falling to Robert Morris last season. The Pioneers have advanced to the semifinals in four-straight tournaments.

- The Pioneers have faced Long Island the most of any team in tournament play with four meetings. The Pioneers are 2-2 against the Blackbirds. SHU has faced Mount St. Mary's three times, going 2-1. The Pioneers have faced Robert Morris, Quinnipiac and Monmouth twice each in postseason play.
