Osceola, FL - Freshman Taylor Froelich (Garden Grove, CA) had four hits and freshman Jen Russell (Seymour, CT) allowed one run to earn her first career victory as the Sacred Heart softball team posted two wins at the Rebel Games Monday. The Pioneers beat Fairfield 5-3 and then topped Detroit-Mercy 6-1.

Froelich went 2-for-4 against Fairfield, including knocking out the game winning hit in a three run sixth inning. Sophomore Adrian Fitzsimon (Sacramento, CA) worked out a bases loaded walk to force home the tying run in the inning. Freshman Courtney Lee (Camarillo, CA) hit her first career home run in the rally. Senior Megan Spehar (Thousand Oaks, CA) allowed three hits and two runs over five and two thirds innings to earn her second victory in as many starts.

The Pioneer offense started early againt Detroit-Mercy, knocking out five runs in the first two innings. Froelich was 2-for-3 with an RBI while freshman Shannon McCoy (Yorba Linda, CA) and senior Melissa Mezzanotte (North Haven, CT) each had an RBI. Russell gave up just five hits and struck out four batters.

Sacred Heart continues play at the Rebel Games on Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers will take on Valpariso at 3:00 pm and LaSalle at 5:00 pm.
