Two-time meet MVP Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY/Beacon) is making a bid for number three. More importantly for the Pioneers' program, his efforts have SHU in contention for the team title at the 2008 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Men's Championships in Landover, MD. Sacred Heart sits third after day one, 13 points behind meet-leading Monmouth (36.50). Robert Morris (24) holds second place by a half-point over SHU.

Dixon beat out Long Island's rookie Corryl Boyd to secure his second consecutive long jump title, adding his name to the list of NCAA provisional qualifiers by smashing a 14 year old meet record. The back-to-back long jump champ's winning mark of 7.50m (24'7.25") bested the 7.36m jump that Monmouth's Maurice Bell registered at the 1993 championships.

Dixon was one of of three Pioneers to qualify for tomorrow's 60-meter dash finals, registering the top qualifying time (6.84) The defending champ emerged out of a highly competitive field that saw five athletes clock in under the IC4A standard, but he wasn't done yet. Dixon clocked in with the top 200-meter prelim time (21.77) and senior teammate Scott Giordano (Hamden, CT/Notre Dame HS) joined him in advancing.

On the women's side, the Pioneers sit in second place trailing Saint Francis (PA) by just seven and a half points. Sacred Heart senior Marsha Locke (Danbury, CT/Danbury) was just edged out by SFPA's Lisa Morse in the shot by six centimeters. Locke, who will battle for more points in tomorrow's weight throw, was one of three Sacred Heart scorers in the shot.
