Feb. 18, 2008
Sacred Heart senior Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY/Beacon) topped all Northeast Conference track and field athletes by garnering all-league indoor honors in four events. Dixon won a meet-best three events to capture his third Most Valuable Performer award and power the Pioneers to the team title. The indoor meet's three-time MVP (2005, 2007, 2008) tallied enough points to capture both Track Performer of the Meet and Field Performer of the Meet honors.
Sacred Heart head coach Christian Morrison took home the NEC Coach of the Meet award after his Pioneers derailed Monmouth's chances of a fourth consecutive team title. Morrison was honored as the NEC Coach of the Year in cross country in 2004 and 2005 and the Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year in 2006-07.
Dixon's long jump victory and NCAA provisional qualifying mark on the meet's opening day were simply a start. The all-NEC long jumper padded his resume with first team all-league performances in both the 60-meter (6.79) and 400-meter (48.07) dashes. Dixon's senior teammate Scott Giordano (Hamden, CT/Notre Dame HS) stopped the three-time MVP from repeating as the 200-meter champ, but Dixon still managed a second team all-NEC finish.
Sacred Heart's Brittany Dexter (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston) repeated as high jump champion. Improving on last year's winning performance, Dexter cleared 1.73m to tie a 12-year old meet record and qualify for the ECAC Championships in March.
Joining Dexter on the first team was freshman Angelica Johnson (Little Ferry, NJ/Ridgefield Park) who won the 60-meters in 7.76 seconds. Senior Marsha Locke (Danbury, CT/Danbury) earned second team honors after a second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.60m.
