Samford Track Has Positive Day In Second Day Of Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ---- The Samford track and field team continued competition in the Alabama Relays Saturday with several Bulldogs setting more personal records. Three athletes ran set new personal bests while one set a season best in their respective event.

Kyle Brown and Ryan Fee set new personal best in the hammer throw and the javelin events. Brown had a distance of 112' in the hammer throw while throwing the javelin 160'5". Fee's throw in the hammer competition was 107'1" and his distance in the javelin was 131'5".

Ciara Floyd set a new personal best of 18'6.5" in the long jump. The jump earned her sixth place and was half a foot farther than her previous personal best. Britney Almaguer also set a new season best in the 1500-meter run, placing ninth with a time of 4:44.88.

Morgan Tyler took 11th place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time 14.87 while also placing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 1:02.24 in that event was the second best time in Samford history. Kady Decker also took 14th in the same event with a time of 1:05.55, which her best time in the event for the season so far.

In the men's pole vault event, Zac Epperson took fifth place with a vault of 13'11.25" while Chas Keithan placed ninth, clearing 12'5.5".

Michael Smith missed a regional qualifying time by half a second in the 400-meter hurdles but finished third in the event with a time of 52.93.

Katie Almand placed fifth in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:10.17, just six seconds off her personal best. Cameron Bean took sixth in the men's event with a time of 9:47.58.

The 400-meter dash events were postponed due to inclement weather. That event along with the final events will take place on Sunday as the Alabama Relays conclude.
