Two Bulldogs Named OVC Track and Field Athletes Of The Week

April 22, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford senior hurdles Michael Smith was named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Male Track Athlete of the Week while sophomore Kyle Brown was named Male Field Athlete of the Week for this week.

Smith qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regionals this Saturday at the UGA Bulldog Limited in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.39. He also set a new personal record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.67.

Smth shares the honor with Eastern Kentucky's Jacob Korir who finished fourth in the 5,000-meters at the Mt. SAC Relays this past weekend. His time of 13:29.12 broke his own school record by nearly 18 seconds, and is one of the fastest times in the country this season.

Brown posted a new personal record in the javelin at the UGA Bulldog Limited this past weekend. His performance of 176'09.00" ranks second on the OVC Best List.

Voted on by conference officials, the award is given to those persons who have excelled in track events and field events in the prior week. One female and one male, and often more than one, is named Athlete of the Week for track and for field.
