BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford junior shortstop Michael Marseco was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Player of the Week when the conference released its weekly awards on Monday.

In four games last week, Marseco batted .467 (7-for-15) with a triple and six RBI. He helped Samford to a 3-1 record for the week and a three-game sweep of Miami of Ohio.

Marseco was 3-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's 6-5 come-from-behind win in the first game of the series with Miami. In the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, which Samford won 6-5 in 10 innings, he was 3-for-4 with three RBI.

For the season, Marseco is leading the team with a .386 batting average. He also ranks second on the team with 10 RBI.

Marseco and the Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday with a game at Alabama. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start from Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/groups/wvsu/.
