BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play at Murray State this weekend in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m., and a single game Sunday, also at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs are currently 12-8 overall and 3-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play after falling to Auburn, 14-6, Wednesday evening at Regions Park. Last weekend, Samford swept a three-game OVC series from Tennessee-Martin.

Samford is led by junior shortstop Michael Marseco, batting .400 with 32 hits and 23 RBI. Sophomore outfielder Wayne Miller is batting .386, while senior third baseman Michael Rutledge is hitting .370. Jonathan Stephens (3-0, 2.45 ERA) and David Knapp (3-1, 2.73 ERA) have led the pitching staff so far.

The Thoroughbreds enter the weekend with a record of 8-9 overall and 1-2 in OVC play after splitting two midweek games with Lipscomb. Murray State opened OVC play last weekend by losing two of three games to Jacksonville State. MSU is currently led at the plate by Wes Cunningham (.426, 10 RBI) and Elliot Frey (.370, 9 RBI).

Since joining the OVC prior to the 2004 season, Samford has a record of 7-5 against Murray State. In each series the teams have played while in the OVC, the visiting team has taken the series. Under head coach Casey Dunn, Samford is 5-4 against Murray State.
