Baseball Travels To Southeast Missouri For Weekend OVC Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to take on the Southeast Missouri Redhawks in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m., and a single game Sunday, also at 1 p.m.

Samford enters the weekend with a record of 22-12 overall and 9-2 in OVC play after splitting two midweek games this week. Southeast Missouri is currently 14-15 overall and 5-5 in OVC play after dropping a midweek game to Southern Illinois.

Samford is led at the plate by Michael Marseco, batting .385 with 30 RBI. Michael Rutledge is batting .379 with a team-high 37 RBI. Bear Burnett leads the team in home runs with five. Jonathan Stephens (5-0, 2.51 ERA) has been the leader of the pitching staff so far this season.

SEMO is led at the plate by Jim Klocke with a .374 batting average. Tyrell Cummings is batting .336 with nine home runs and 40 RBI. Dustin Renfrow (3-2, 3.40 ERA) has been the top pitcher for the Redhawks so far this season.

Since joining the OVC prior to the 2004 season, Samford has compiled a record of 7-7 against Southeast Missouri. Last season, SEMO won two of the three regular-season meetings, but Samford defeated SEMO in the OVC Tournament, 5-1. Under head coach Casey Dunn, Samford is 7-4 against SEMO.
