Baseball Travels To Tennessee Tech For Final OVC Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will travel to Cookeville, Tenn., to take on Tennessee Tech in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m., and a single game Saturday, also at 1 p.m.

Samford enters the weekend with a record of 32-19 overall and 18-5 in Ohio Valley Conference play after sweeping a series from Morehead State last weekend. Tennessee Tech is currently 31-20-1 overall and 11-13 in OVC play after being swept by Jacksonville State last weekend.

Samford is led at the plate by Michael Marseco, batting .420 with five home runs and 44 RBI. Michael Rutledge is batting .360 with a team-high 51 RBI. Jonathan Stephens (7-0, 2.22 ERA), Trent Hill (6-3, 4.59 ERA) and Michael Jarry (4-2, 4.91 ERA) have led the Samford pitching staff so far this season.

Chris King has led Tennessee Tech at the plate with a .398 batting average and 46 RBI. Jake New is batting .363 with 39 RBI. A.J. Kirby-Jones (2-1, 2.48 ERA) and Matt Kearney (4-0, 4.42 ERA) have been the leaders of the Tech pitching staff this season.

Since joining the Ohio Valley Conference prior to the 2004 season, Samford is 12-0 in games played against Tennessee Tech. Samford is 6-0 against the Golden Eagles in Cookeville. Under head coach Casey Dunn, Samford has a record of 9-0 against Tennessee Tech.
