Men's Golf Host Samford Intercollegiate at Limestone Springs

March 9, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Samford men's golf team will host the fifth annual Samford Intercollegiate this Monday and Tuesday, March 10 -11, at the Limestone Springs Golf Course in Oneonta, Ala. The two-day event features a field of 18 teams including host team Samford.

Joining the Bulldogs (#227) are fellow Ohio Valley Conference members Austin Peay (#161), Eastern Kentucky (#83), Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin (#188). Non-conference competitors include Dayton, Illinois State (#187), Lipscomb (#100), New Orleans, Nicholls State, Southern Illinois (#153), Troy, West Florida and Winthrop (#168).

The Austin Peay Governors are the defending Samford Intercollegiate champions. The Governors took the title in 2007 by one stroke over New Orleans. UNO's Jose Toledo, a junior, took the individual title last season followed by Austin Peay's Toshio Yamamoto in a close second.

Samford tied for sixth last year and hopes to break into the top five this week. Tennessee State was the first Samford Intercollegiate champion and has been a staple in the field since the tournament's inception.

Tournament play begins Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Teams will participate in two 18-hole rounds on day one followed by one round on day two at the par-72, 6,987-yard course. A full recap and results will be available on www.samfordsports.com upon the completion of each day of play.
