Hill Named OVC Freshman Of The Week

Feb. 4, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford's Savannah Hill was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Week when the league released its weekly women's basketball awards on Monday.

Hill, a native of Elora, Tenn., averaged 17.0 points per game in Samford's two wins last week. Hill scored 19 points, making 7-of-10 shots from the floor, in Saturday's 86-80, double-overtime win over Eastern Illinois.

In Thursday's win at Tennessee State, Hill scored 15 points and led the team with six rebounds.

For the season, Hill leads Samford in rebounding, pulling down 4.9 rebounds per game, and she is second on the team in scoring, with an average of 10.4 points per game.

Hill and the Bulldogs have won 10 of their last 11 games, and they will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 9, when Samford plays at Austin Peay. The game is scheduled for a 5:15 p.m. start.
