Women's Basketball Hosts Morehead State Thursday

Women's Basketball Game Notes In PDF Format

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The Samford women's basketball team will play host to Morehead State in an Ohio Valley Conference game Thursday evening at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 18-6 overall and 11-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play after a 65-56 overtime win at Austin Peay on Saturday. Morehead State is currently 7-16 overall and 5-9 in league play after a 56-52 loss to Murray State on Saturday.

In Saturday's win over Austin Peay, Emily London led Samford with 17 points. London was named the OVC's Freshman of the Week for her performance. Taryn Towns scored 15 points, and Alex Munday and Chika Okoli added 10 points each for the Bulldogs.

For the season, Samford is led in scoring by London, averaging 12.2 points per game. Savannah Hill is second on the team in scoring, with an average of 10.1 points per game.

Hill leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.0 per game. Monica Maxwell is second in rebounding, pulling down 3.9 rebounds per game.

Towns is the team leader in assists, dishing out 3.8 assists per game. London is second with an average of 2.5 assists per contest.

Samford players rank in the top five in the OVC in several statistical categories. London ranks third in three-point field goal percentage (45.2%). Towns ranks second in the league in assist-turnover ratio (2.05), and Maxwell ranks fifth in the league in three-point field goals made per game (1.88 pg.).

Samford and Morehead State are meeting for the 12th time with Samford holding a 7-4 advantage in the series. Earlier this season, Samford won at Morehead State by a score of 61-49.

The women's basketball program is hosting Father-Daughter Night at the game. All fathers are encouraged to bring their daughters to the game. Each father-daughter pair will have the opportunity to participate in a halftime promotion, and they can enter a drawing to win a dozen roses, which will be delivered to the daughter by Samford's mascot, Spike.
