Women's Hoops Travels To OVC-Leading Southeast Missouri Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play at Southeast Missouri in a key Ohio Valley Conference game Thursday night.

Samford enters the game in second place in the OVC with two games remaining. The Bulldogs are 14-4 in league play and 21-7 overall after a 74-64 loss at Murray State on Saturday.

SEMO is currently in first place in the OVC with a 16-2 conference record and a 21-6 overall mark. The Redhawks are coming off a 68-52 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

Samford and Southeast Missouri are meeting for the 13th time, with SEMO holding a 10-2 advantage in the series. Earlier this season, Southeast Missouri defeated Samford, 69-60 on Dec. 18 at the Pete Hanna Center.

In Saturday's loss at Murray State, Samford's Emily London scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. Alex Munday added 18 points for Samford in the loss. For the week, London averaged 19.5 points per game, and she was named the OVC's Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season.

For the season, London leads Samford in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game. Monica Maxwell is second on the team in scoring, with an average of 10.7 points per game.

Savannah Hill leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.9 boards per contest. Alex Munday is second in the category, averaging 4.0 rebounds per game.

Taryn Towns is the team-leader in assists, dishing out 3.8 assists per game. London is second on the team in assists, averaging 2.4 assists per game.

Samford players rank in the top five in the OVC in several statistical categories. London ranks fourth in field goal percentage (51.8%) and second in three-point field goal percentage (49.1%). Towns ranks second in the league in assist-turnover ratio (2.06), while Maxwell ranks fifth in the league in three-point field goals made per game (2.04 pg.).
