Women's Basketball To Host EKU In First-Round OVC Tournament Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team has earned the No. 2 seed for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, and the Bulldogs will play host to the No. 7-seeded Eastern Kentucky Colonels Tuesday night at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford and Eastern Kentucky split their regular-season series, with each team winning at home. EKU defeated Samford, 72-45, on Jan. 19 in Richmond, Ky. Samford evened the season series with a 71-48 win on Feb. 16 at the Pete Hanna Center.

Southeast Missouri earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament, and the Redhawks will play host to No. 8-seeded Jacksonville State. Third-seeded Murray State will host sixth-seeded Morehead State, and fourth-seeded Eastern Illinois will host fifth-seeded Tennessee State.

The winner of the Samford-Eastern Kentucky game will play the winner of the Murray State-Morehead State game Friday at 2 p.m. at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. The championship game of the OVC Tournament is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.

The No. 2 seed is the highest ever for Samford in the OVC Tournament. The Bulldogs were the No. 7 seed in 2005, the No. 3 seed in 2006 and the No. 4 seed in 2007.

Samford enters the tournament with a record of 22-8 overall and 15-5 in OVC play. The 22 wins are the most in program history.
