Samford Women's Golf In Ninth Place After First Day Of Samford Intercollegiate

ONEONTA, Ala. --- The Samford women's golf team sits at ninth place after two rounds in the first day on the fifth annual Samford Intercollegiate held at Limestone Springs Golf Course in Oneonta, Ala. The Bulldogs shot 622 on the day while Tulsa took the top spot shooting 581 as a team.

The Hurricanes lead the 15-team pack by 17 strokes with Illinois trailing at second and Murray State, Jacksonville State and Chattanooga rounding out the top five. Missouri State, Belmont and Bradley are tied at sixth place followed by Samford at ninth. South Alabama is four strokes behind Samford at 10th, followed by Birmingham-Southern at 11th place, UAB at 12th, Western Kentucky at 13th, Xavier at 14th and Lipscomb at 15th.

The top five players are separated by only four strokes. Tulsa's Tara Goedeken leads the field, shooting 141 (70-71) on the day followed by Emma deGroot (UTC) and Kristine Cook (Illinois) tied at second only two strokes behind. Micheala Cavener (Tulsa) and Amy Phalaljivin (Missouri State) round out the top five.

Victoria Sansom, of Western Kentucky, currently ranked 48th, made the only hole-in-one of the day on the fifth hole in the second round.

Heather Arnold leads the Bulldogs tied at 19th place. Arnold shot 77 in the first round and a team low 74 in the second round to bring her total score for the say to 151. Katelyn Stanier is two strokes behind at 153 (78-75), putting her at 23rd place. Sara Hunt is tied at 42nd place with a score of 158 (79-79) after two rounds while Maria Troche is tied at 57th place (85-77 = 162. Courtney Warr rounds out the Samford playing five with a two-round score of 169 (83-86).

Play resumes in the Samford Intercollegiate Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. The teams will play another 18 holes to complete the final round of the two-day event. A full recap and results will be available on www.samfordsports.com upon the completion of the tournament.
