Samford Golf Kicks Off Spring Season This Week :: Bulldog men and women begin spring play Monday and Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford men's and women's golf teams begin spring play this Monday and Tuesday. The Bulldog women will stay in town while the men head to the Sunshine state.

The Samford women will start play on Monday in the annual Ann Rhoads BSC Shootout hosted by cross-town rival Birmingham Southern. The two-day event will be held at Timberline Golf Course in Calera, Ala.

Birmingham-Southern has been one of Samford's biggest competitors for some time now. The Bulldogs have always seemed to come up just short of finishing ahead of the Panthers in past competitions. In the 2006 Fall BSC-UAB-Samford tri-match, the Bulldogs were the second place finisher on the heels of BSC, and in last season's Ann Rhoads BSC Shootout, Samford finished in 14th place. The Bulldog women hope to improve on last year's finish and land in the top five this year.

The men will head to Florida to participate in the annual Argonaut Invitational hosted by the University of West Florida. The two-day event will be held at the Pensacola Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. The Bulldog men also hope to improve on their 14th place finish last year.
