Samford's Troche Earns Women's Golf OVC Player of the Week Honors :: Troche is first Bulldogs to earn the Conference honor this year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Junior golf Maria Troche is the Ohio Valley Conference women's golf Player of the Week, announced the Conference office Wednesday. The honor is voted on by Conference officials and is awarded to the player who displayed an outstanding performance in the prior week.

Troche was the top finisher for the Bulldogs last weekend in the Crimson Tide Classic hosted by the University of Alabama women's golf team. She tied for ninth place, shooting 225, which is her lowest three-round score of the year (fall and spring). The finish ties her highest finish in a tournament this year which last came at the Ann Rhoads Southern Shootout in February.

Troche led the Bulldogs to a fifth place tied with Kentucky at the Alabama tournament. The finish continues Samford's mark of not finishing below seventh place all spring. The Bulldogs' three-round total of 918 is the lowest for the team this whole year.

The Samford women will compete in the OVC Women's Golf Championship next Monday through Wednesday, April 14 - 16. The three-day event will be hosted by Jacksonville State at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
