Hartford Qualified for The NCAA Regional Meet Last Weekend

The University of San Francisco Track and Field teams will send split squads this weekend to the Rafer Johnson/ Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational hosted by UCLA and the Johnny Mathis Invitational, hosted by San Francisco State.

Heading down south to compete for the women will seniors Jennifer Hartford, Zita Mezei, junior Michelle Born, sophomore Briana Junior and freshmen Nicole Bowler, Hannah O'Neal and Amelia Holcombe. Field events on Friday begin at 1:00pm and the distance carnival begins at 6:00pm with the women's steeplechase. On Saturday, invitational running events begin at 12:15pm.

Hartford became the first Don to ever qualify for the NCAA Regional Meet last weekend when she ran a 16:49.50 in the 5000m, smashing her old personal bests by over 35 seconds. Hartford will be competing in the 1500m along with Holcombe on Friday evening. Joining Hartford and Holcombe in Friday's competition will be Michelle Born (5000m), Hannah O'Neal (800m) and Nicole Bowler who will be make her collegiate debut in the 3000m steeplechase. Briana Junior will be the only Don competing in the field in LA where she will look to improve her school record mark in the triple jump. Zita Mezei will compete in the invitational 1500 on Saturday.

Leading the men will be junior Alex Nelson in the 800m and freshman Ravi Amarawansa in the 1500m. Nelson competes on Saturday in the invitational 800. He holds the school record in both the 800m and 1500m, is coming off a personal best at 1500m (3:49.53) last weekend at the Stanford Invitational. Amarawansa competes in the open 1500 Friday evening.

The rest of the team will be heading to the Johnny Mathis Invitational at San Francisco State University where the men will be led on the track by sophomore Byron Williams and freshmen Colin and Devin Hopkins in the 800m. In the field the men will have sophomore school record holder Alex McIntosh competing in the pole vault, along with sophomores Alex Irani and A.J. Fabrizio and freshman Oliver Kirkeby in the shot put and discus and freshman Alexander McHenry in the javelin.

In women's competition, the Dons will be led on the track by freshman Arianna Edwards and Gabriel Harrington in the 400m, sophomore Christine Jowaiszas in the 1500m and sophomore Mary Verran in the 3000m. In the field, school record holder Brynn Maurer will compete in the javelin Field events on Saturday begin at 9:30am and running events begin at 10:00am with the women's 3000.
