Derek Tate begins his second year as Assistant Director of Baseball Operations with the University of San Francisco. Tate is in charge of alumni relations, putting together schedule cards, working with game day and corporate sponsors, planning game day events and is also the Director of the Dons Youth Baseball Academy.

Before joining the staff, Tate played two years of professional baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He was drafted in the 32nd round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft by the Blue Jays and earned the Baseball America Toronto Blue Jays Newcomer of the Year Award that year.

Tate started his collegiate baseball career at Columbia Basin College (Kennewick, WA) where he earned First-Team All-Pacific accolades before spending his final two seasons on the Hilltop. As a Don in 2003, Tate led the pitching staff with 25 appearances and ranked second with a 3.91 ERA. In his senior season, Tate led all Dons hurlers with 117.0 innings pitched - good for fifth on the Dons single season charts.

Tate earned his Bachelors degree in Business from USF in 2005.
