(San Francisco, CA) - San Francisco baseball earns the series victory by taking a 4-1 win over Loyola Marymount (16-14, 3-2 WCC) on Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond. The Dons (19-11, 4-1 WCC) win their fourth straight behind a tough Matt Baugh in a quick two hour and 22 minute game. Baugh (4-2), a senior left-hander, earned the victory in a timely fashion. Throwing 8.0 innings, Baugh scattered four hits, allowing just one unearned run and a walk, while striking out six. Senior Mitchell Bialosky threw the ninth, allowing just one hit, and earning his first save of the season. USF scored all they would need in a three run third. Junior left fielder Zach Kim walked before senior shortstop Tavo Hall doubled to left. Kim scored, and Hall advanced to third on the throw home. Senior second baseman Joey Railey also doubled to left, sending Hall home. Railey moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman center fielder Connor Bernatz and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior right fielder Kyle Morgan to make it 3-0. An insurance run was added in the fourth to make it 4-0. Freshman designated hitter Stephen Yarrow walked and advanced to second on another successful sacrifice, this time by junior third baseman Dane Braunecker. Kim then doubled to left center, plating Yarrow.
LMU, trying to cut the lead, put a run up in the fifth. With one out, Michael Glomb struck out, but reached base when he swung at a wild pitch that got behind sophomore catcher Ryan Lipkin. Angelo Songco singled to right and when Morgan threw the ball into Bialosky at first, Bialosky lost sight of it which allowed Glomb to cross the plate. Hall went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Lipkin had two hits in the contest in four chances. Railey and Kim both doubled, batted in a run and scored. Bialosky and Morgan singled, rounding out the Dons eight hits on the day. Loyola Marymount's junior Mike Kenney (5-2) took the loss for the Lions, allowing four earned runs off six hits, five walks, and struck out one Don in 7.0 innings. Songco had two hits for LMU. USF looks for the series sweep tomorrow at Benedetti Diamond. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM. |
