(Stockton, CA) - San Francisco fell to Pacific 10-6 in non-conference action at Klein Family Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Dons (25-20) out hit the Tigers (9-31) 14-8 in the contest, but couldn't convert on 12 men left on base. Senior second baseman Joey Railey had three hits on the night, which move him into sole possession of sixth place on the Dons All Time Hits Chart with 218. Senior shortstop Tavo Hall smacked his team leading 14th double and batted in two runs. Freshman Connor Bernatz had two doubles and senior first baseman Mitchell Bialosky hit his 11th double on a 2-for-5 night with two runs scored. Sophomore catcher Ryan Lipkin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and regained the team batting lead at .373. Freshman designated hitter Stephen Yarrow stroked his first career triple and senior right fielder Kyle Morgan smashed his 13th double and batted in a run. Sophomore third baseman Derek Poppert also doubled, his seventh, and scored a run. Senior right-hander Brian Anderson (1-3) took the loss in relief, allowing five runs (one earned) off three hits, three walks, and struck out three Tigers in 2.1 innings. Freshman left-hander Garrett Luippold allowed Pacific's first four runs (all earned) off four hits in 1.1 innings of relief. Freshman right-hander Sean Burns allowed the final earned run off one hit, three walks, and one strikeout in 1.2 innings of relief. Junior left-hander Evan Fredrickson threw 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts as today's starter and freshman right-hander Jacob Abramson threw 0.2 innings of scoreless and hitless relief in closing out the game.
Pacific's junior right-hander Casey Neimeyer (1-1) earned the victory in relief, not allowing a run off three hits, one walk, and two strikeouts in 4.0 innings. USF jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead after three innings. In the first, Morgan hit an RBI double down the right field line. In the second, after junior left fielder Zach Kim reached on an error and Poppert doubled, Hall singled to left, scoring both runners. In the third, Bialosky singled and scored on Yarrow's triple to left center. Yarrow then scored on Lipkin's single to center. Scoring runners became a problem after that as the Dons left two on in the sixth, and left the bases loaded in both the seventh and ninth innings. USF was able to plate on in the ninth on a Lipkin RBI single, but that would be all they could get. Down 5-1 going into the fourth, Pacific tied it with four of their own and took the lead with another four spot in the sixth. They added an insurance run in the eighth to secure the win. USF returns home tomorrow for a 3:00 PM game with Fresno State. |
