Final Stats

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Danny Cavic had a career-high 25 points as San Francisco broke a four-game losing streak with a 73-60 win over Portland Monday night.

Cavic, a 6-foot-6 senior guard, made six 3-pointers in nine attempts and the Dons (7-19, 3-8 West Coast Conference) hit a season-high 10 3-pointers.

It was the 10th straight victory in the series for USF, which also got a career-high 20 points from Vince Polakovic and 14 by WCC-leading scorer Dior Lowhorn.

Nik Raivo had 16 points for Portland (8-19, 2-10), which fought back from a 14-point second-half deficit to take a short-lived one-point lead but lost its third straight and sixth of seven.

USF took a 26-17 lead with 5:36 left in the first half following an 11-0 run that was started with a turnaround jumper by Lowhorn and finished off with a 3-pointer by Myron Strong. Two other 3-pointers by Polakovic made up the rally.

Portland eventually closed to 29-28 before Cavic made three straight three-pointers keying a 13-0 run, giving USF a 42-28 lead with 14:34 remaining in the game. But the Pilots rattled off 23 of the game's next 31 finished off with a 3-pointer by Jared Stohl to take a 51-50 lead with 7:40 left.

USF coach Eddie Sutton won his 801st career game and improved to 6-0 lifetime against the Pilots.

San Francisco plays its final road game of the season Monday, February 25 at ancient Bay Area rival Santa Clara. Game time against the Broncos is set for 7:00 PM at the Leavey Center.
