Kyle Prolo has yet to compete for the USF men's golf team, but has already posted a remarkable summer prior to joining the Dons on the Hilltop for the 2008-09 season.
A senior transfer from Idaho State, Prolo carded six birdies in the final round on Tuesday to win the 2008 NCGA Public Links Championship at Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach. The De La Salle High School graduate, prevailed by six strokes over Chris Marin and Brent Booth.
"I knew if I shot around even (par) it would be good enough," said Prolo, posted a 71 for the day and 4-under-par 140 for the tournament. "That's the best I've putted in a long time."
Marin, of Cal State GC, and Booth, of Palo Alto GC, tied for second place at 2-over 146. Marin, who posted a 1-over-par 73 in the final round, went on to take the runner-up honor on the first playoff hole. Scott Hardy, the golf coach at St. Mary's College, was fifth at 74-149.
