USF Women's Basketball Defeats Saint Mary's 80-68

Jan. 24, 2008

Final Stats

(Moraga, CA) - Senior forward Dominique Carter scored a career high 35 points and sophomore forward Heidi Heintz threw down a career first triple-double in San Francisco's 80-68 win over Saint Mary's in West Coast Conference action at McKeon Pavilion. The Dons (12-7, 3-1 WCC) led by as many as 23 points in the second half and held the Gaels (9-10, 1-2 WCC) to .267 (4-15) from behind the arc.

With her career high game, Carter moves into second place all-time on the USF career scoring charts with 1,627 and overtakes USF legend Brittany Lindhe for 10th all-time in the WCC scoring charts. Carter only needs five more to overtake Ashley Burke (Gonzaga 2002-05) for ninth.

Heintz earned her first triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Junior guard Shay Rollins also played well, scoring 12 points and adding six rebounds and six assists.

USF went into half-time leading by one, 32-31, before breaking open the game in the second half going on a 35-11 run. Saint Mary's went on a 16-0 run of their own, but couldn't crack the Dons tough offense.

San Francisco shot .448 (30-67) from the floor, while keeping SMC to .439 (25-57). The Dons held the free-throw advantage, shooting an impressive .917 (11-12) compared to the Gaels .737 (14-19). USF earned one more rebound than Saint Mary's, 37-36.

Senior guard Lauren Shaughnessy was the top scorer for Saint Mary's, with 18 points and five rebounds. Other double figure scorers were freshman forward Louella Tomlinson (11 points, 7 rebounds) and freshman guard Suzie Davis (10 points, four rebounds).
